Anthurium Solutions is the latest startup to hire a UMass Boston student intern. The firm recently tapped John Gray, College of Management, as its new system admin intern. Located in the Venture Development Center, Anthurium Solutions is an emerging software company that has begun building an innovative online matching and workflow platform to deliver healthcare. Anthurium Solutions has added several new team members, and moved into larger quarters in the Venture Development Center. John Gray is the thirty-second student intern placed this year into a local startup.

Startups are taking advantage of work being done by the VDC’s entrepreneur in residence, Dan Phillips, a business mentor with strong ties to the local tech community, and Anna Tsui who has a bead on the entrepreneurial students. Maria Cirino, managing director of .406 Ventures, said in an interview with Mass HighTech that the draw of the VDC’s program is not only access to affordable, talented young people in a time of tight cash, but also having someone like Phillips behind the process. “You have an incredibly seasoned, successful entrepreneur doing all the legwork, matching companies’ needs with the students,” Cirino said.

The Venture Development Center is Boston’s leading startup incubator for technology and life science companies.
