"An interior glazing system provides direct views to the bay throughout the space."

On June 22, 2010 Sasaki took home top honors in the New England Chapter of the International Interior Design Association’s fourth annual Interior Design Awards, winning the Best Research project for its design of the Venture Development Center. The New England Interior Design Awards showcase not only the design of the projects, but it also recognizes the collaborative efforts of the entire project team – including engineers, architects, furniture dealers and general contractors.

Lori Hessamfar and Tracy Dupont of Sasaki accepted the award on behalf of the team during the 2010 ceremony at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. Tracy told us: "We received many complements on the space from the design community.  We told them we owe it all to our enthusiastic and visionary clients."

Here’s the description of the Sasaki entry:

"This 18,000 square foot mixed-use “incubator” space was designed around flexibility, transparency and collaboration. An interior glazing system at the reception, work pods, offices and presentation room provide direct views to the bay throughout the space. Leading edge technology is provided in the labs, the presentation room and the café. The dark grey presentation room provides a dramatic back drop for the large single panel plasma monitor. Hybrid, wet and dry labs provide collaborative space for research, development and communication. The café, work pods and soft seating areas provide opportunity for impromptu meetings or conversations. A graphic identity was developed to compliment the sleek yet industrial design."

The Venture Development Center is Boston’s leading startup incubator for technology and life science companies.
