(Governor Patrick announces support for MassChallenge venture competition.)

MassChallenge is working to catalyze growth and jobs by launching the world’s largest global startup competition. This competition will be using a combination of public and private funds and is industry and geography agnostic: anyone can enter, with any startup idea, from anywhere on the planet.

The first competition will occur in Spring 2010.  The goal is to attract hundreds of new businesses and pair them with the resources they need.  Entrants will receive access to training, mentors, executives, other team members and contacts with sources of funding. Experts from the Massachusetts ecosystem will identify the highest potential startups. Winners will receive cash prizes and will qualify for privileged access to funding sources from across Massachusetts and New England.

As a starting point for this competition, MassChallenge will be hosting several information sessions throughout the Boston area in upcoming weeks. These sessions will consist of a short presentation and Q&A session. You will find out details on how to apply, what our criteria is for entrants, how to volunteer, whether you can act as a mentor and judge and much, much more!

The first session statewide will be on Tuesday, February 16th at 5:30 pm at the Venture Development Center at the University of Massachusetts Boston. No need to RSVP, just show up. Directions.

The Venture Development Center is Boston’s startup incubator that gets you to the point where you’ve built something impressive enough to acquire customers and raise money on a larger scale.
