A great start-up environment keeps getting better:

A fourth server rack was installed in the VDC’s data center for partners to use for development and testing of their servers and software. Partners take care of installation, operation and maintenance.

The VDC has also purchased a 3 node, 48 core, 350 GB departmental supercomputer with Linux OS and 1 TB of storage developed by Symmetric Computing Inc., a partner in the VDC. The firm’s proprietary software presents the user with a single operating system image and single global shared memory. The departmental supercomputer is intended for use by small work groups who require high performance but have modest budgets.

Software developers transitioning to parallel programming will enjoy significant productivity leaps. Its a near necessity for running demanding applications in modeling and simulation, image processing, computational biology and computational finance.
